چکیده

The Ilizarov technique lends itself well to correction of foot deformities because of the three-dimensional nature of the foot and of the apparatus. The two approaches to the correction of foot deformities are (1) soft tissue distraction of the deformity and (2) distraction of an osteotomy. In the former, the deformity is corrected by eliminating pre-existing contractures and by distracting across joints in an attempt to bring them into a new congruous relationship to a plantigrade position. 3,5.8.18 In the second, the distraction occurs through osteotomies, regenerating new bone and eliminating deformities by opening wedge-type corrections." 8.15.18 The joints remain undisturbed with osteotomy distraction techniques. The decision as to which approach to use depends on several factors: (1) age, (2) the presence or absence of fixed bony deformities, and (3) the stiffness of the deformity. The decision for nonosteotomy treatment depends primarily on the age of the patient. Essentially, any deformity can be treated without osteotomy in patients younger than 8 years of age. In patients older than 8, the presence of fixed bony deformities is generally a contraindication to nonosteotomy treatment. An exception to this rule is when the joints to be distracted are so stiff that tlrere is significant risk of physeal disruption rather than joint distraction. In these cases, osteotomy treatment may be preferable. The indications for nonosteotomy treatment are similar to those for soft tissue release by conventional means. 17 Soft tissue release relies on biologic plasticity and remodeling of cartilaginous bones. Relapsed clubfoot correction with soft-tissue release and selective application of Ilizarov technique

The Ilizarov technique is an alternative for the treatment of complex foot deformities in children. The authors retrospectively reviewed children with relapsed clubfoot deformity, treated with soft tissue procedures and additional correction with an Ilizarov frame. Twelve consecutive patients (13 feet) with relapsed clubfoot deformity after previous surgical correction were reviewed. Treatment ...

Correction of complex foot deformities using the V-osteotomy and the Ilizarov technique

Complex foot deformity is a multiplanar deformity with or without foot shortening. It also includes deformed feet with poor soft-tissue coverage, relapsed or neglected cases, and those with acompanying problems such as leg-length discrepancy, lower leg deformity, osteomyelitis and nonunions. Traditionally, correction of these deformities can be achieved by extensive soft tissue releases, osteot...

Assessment of percutaneous V osteotomy of the calcaneus with Ilizarov application for correction of complex foot deformities.

Complex foot deformity can be described as a foot with multiplanar abnormalities with or without shortening of the foot. Conventional surgical treatment may not be able to correct these deformities. In this study we evaluate the results of percutaneous V osteotomy of the calcaneus with an Ilizarov external fixator for treatment of complex foot deformity. Twenty feet with a complex deformity wer...

Recurrence after correction of acquired ankle equinus deformity in children using Ilizarov technique

To describe our Ilizarov technique for the treatment of acquired equinus deformity in children and to determine if compliance with continuous use of an ankle foot orthosis (after removal of the fixator and until skeletal maturity) can influence the severity of recurrence. A cohort of 26 children with post-traumatic or post-burn contractures producing an equinus deformity was followed up for a m...
